Fanfiction.net orders writers to wash mouths out with soap

This is for all the Buffy and Harry Potter authors on my friends list. The original post talks about Buffy and Doctor Who, but when I followed the link, I saw that Harry Potter fandom is affected as well. I don't personally use fanfiction.net, but I know that some of you do.

http://ffdotnetrants.livejournal.com/134901.html

If these numbers are correct, fanfiction.net just deleted roughly 12% of all Buffy and Doctor Who fic on there with no warning, no chance for writers to correct the perceived problems, and with temporary bans for those who get their stories deleted. Going by some comments I've seen, most have been removed either for using non-grade-school-friendly words in their summaries or for including "love scenes" that aren't considered "tasteful" (their words), but that's not the only thing they go by; one fic was apparently removed for including the word "killed" in its summary. One or two people have reported having their stories reinstated after mailing support, others have gotten rude replies that basically boil down to "RTFM, STFU." Personally I haven't gotten any reply at all after three days.

It might also be interesting to note that ff.net have blocked the possibility to export fics to AO3.

If you want to back up your ff.net stories and reviews, Storymaster seems to work pretty well.

ETA: This comment seems to have some information about some group that's going around reporting tons of stories. Haven't heard anything more about it to back that up though. But worth knowing about just in case, I guess.

ETA: In case you are looking for a safe archive that truly understands fandom, you might want to try Archive of Our Own.

Writer's Block: Merry Christmas

What is the best present you received this year?

I like nice socks with fun patterns. So getting some new socks this year is a good gift for me.

Santa Letter

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In September I ruled Iran as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). In November on a flight to Colorado Springs, I stole the emergency flight information card (-40 points). Last Monday abusing_sarcasm and I robbed a bank (-50 points). In October I helped croatoan6000 see the light (8 points). Last week I stole red_rahl's purse (-30 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-812 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
Magical_jen

I'm trying to write a paper my head is throbbing, I can't find any Tylenol in my house, and I'm still trying not to blush with embarrassment over one of my more clumsier moments.

So around 11:30 pm, as I was writing one of my papers, when I realized that I forgot to add some information from a documentary that I was referencing, and I needed to check before I could add this new argument in my work, I decided to go over Blockbuster to rent the movie again.

Now in my city most of the movie stores close around midnight but a few places lock their door early. I pull up to the blockbuster it’s about 11:55 but it nice a bright inside I see a few customers walking around, paying for their films and chatting with the workers so I think, “great they are still open I can just go in and out no worries and be on my way home”. This is when I have to tell you that I have a bad habit of not slowing down my stride and throwing open doors. I know I shouldn’t do it, it’s dangerous, but it’s a good move when you have a person walking behind you because then if they don’t t have to do that awkward stand and hold open the door as they rush up, if they are a couple meters behind you if you are on the go. Anyways so I am rushing up to the Blockbuster, I reach out to grab the handle to swing the door open but the door was LOCKED!

So because I have not slowed my walk I slam full on into this glass and metal door. my head smacked the glass my arm got all bruised because I hadn't let go of the handle my legs we banging around it was bad, so bad! To make matters worse at this blockbuster, the checkout counter is just one the other side of the entrance and since it is all glass, everyone in the store just whipped around and stared in disbelief while I was trying to blink the stars out of my eyes. Then cashier and his groups of customer burst out laughing and the blockbuster girls just call out. “Um I'm sorry miss we’re closed”. I was mortified once the stars stopped flashing, and to make it worst in my dazed haze I tried two play it off as if I was not the idiot who just walked in to the door. I like kind of looked side to side and pointed to myself as if there was another klutz with me who also walked into the door. Then I got back in my car, drove home to finish my essay sans the extra information from the documentary, and made an ice pack for my head, wrist, and knee. I have never felt less graceful in my life. I am never going into blockbuster again. Maybe I will find a new movie place or maybe I will learn how to download films illegally like the media accuse my peers of doing. I really hope they do not have security cameras that work because if my ass ends up on YouTube in some Fail Blog video I am going to die of embarrassment.

Writer's Block: Film therapy

Are there any movies you watch when you're feeling anxious or depressed? If so, what are they, and what about them calms you down and/or lifts your spirits?

Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth/Jennifer Elile or Kiera Knightly/Matthew Mcfaden if i don't have time to spear). How can anyone dwell on their sorrows when they are watching Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy?

Writer's Block: World's best snack!

What are your all-time favorite snacks? Do you have different snacks for different activities (such as chips at work/school; Cheetohs during deadlines, or popcorn during movies/gaming)? How often does your taste in snacks change?

My favourite snack of all time was Trolley Eggs but they do not make them anymore *tear*. Therefore, I would have to say that my new favourite snack is now M&M peanuts. I usually have them while I am writing essays for school. I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but because of one of my favourite books, "In This Land" Written by Matthew Haldeman-Time (check it out); I sort and eat my M&M's by the Colour of the Seven Sibling of Orina Anoris. However, I start with Talin and work my way up to Remin. I am also ill rationally annoyed by the fact that M&M's do not have a Purple coating so I have to use the brown M&M's to represent Orinakin. It is definitely not a satisfying substitution. I think I may start a petition to replace Brown with Purple.

Stupid Cupid Stop Picking on Me!

Dear Cupid,

This year, I've had my ups and downs in the love department.

Dragon_charmer and I found a key to the playboy mansion and crashed a party.
Oneflewtoofar and I got stuck in a crazy sexual position and had to call Cherryflavour to help us out.
Moonythestrals bought me a dildo then creepily winked at me.

So, as you can see, it's been a hectic year. Can you please make Draconisaqueous fall in love with me this Valentine's day?

Sincerely,

Paranormal Activity. Do you like horror?

So some of you may not know this about me  but i love horror films,  super gory ones, funny ones, the corny 1970
productions. I like them all.  so seeing a clip of  this new film called  Paranormal Activity one got me all excited, the only downer is that it might not show in my city. So i want you all to check out the trailer and if you like it demand that it be shown where you live.   public interest in the film might help get it a wider release.

This film runs in the same sub-genre as Blair witch. Can you believe it been ten years since that film came out. i remember trying to get my friend  older brother to buy the tickets and pretend to be our guardian so we could watch the film, ah those were the days.
